Monochromatic minimalism elevated along the Laguna Beach coastline.

Perched along a steep Laguna Beach hillside, this residence is thoughtfully terraced into the terrain, allowing the architecture to settle into its surroundings rather than rise above them. The vertical layout reverses expectations: primary living spaces sit on the upper level, where the coastline stretches uninterrupted across floor-to-ceiling glass and an ocean-facing deck. Natural cedar ceilings, large-format stone tile, smooth stucco, and blackened metal create a restrained yet expressive palette that balances warmth with quiet rigor. Oversized steel doors slide away to dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior, while brise soleil and screen elements temper light and shadow. Outdoor rooms unfold over multiple elevations and beneath extended roof eaves—lounge terraces, a black-granite pool, a gym with outdoor cold plunge, and a rooftop bar—offering varied experiences of sunsets, onshore winds, and the horizon, each one attuned to its place on the slope.

Inside, the palette remains edited and confident—a dialogue of black and white mixed with subtle texture. Minimalism here is not cold; it’s intentional, infused with organic art and soft, natural materials that invite touch and ease. The home strikes a balance between contrast and calm, offering a modern beachside sanctuary that feels powerfully restorative.
