A modern California beach house that feels like it’s floating above water.

A modern California beach house that feels like it’s floating above water.

Set on a rare stretch of coastline with private beach access, this modern California beach house unfolds effortlessly along a gently sloping site. Each level is designed to respond to the terrain: main-level living spaces and pool decks hover above the landscape, a primary suite crowns the top floor with ocean and horizon views, and a lower-level lounge opens onto a sun-dappled patio. The home feels expansive yet intimate, balancing openness and privacy while letting the surrounding sea, sky and headlands shape the experience at every turn. Influenced by the classic California beach cottage, the home layers traditional elements—rooflines, shiplap siding, and airy volumes—with contrasting modern accents. A black standing-seam roof, steel-framed windows with thin mullions, and jewel-box proportions sharpen the contemporary feel. Inside, a muted palette warms the hues of water and sky, accented by slim black cabinetry lines and glossy panels in the kitchen.

Thoughtful details, from tiered primary bath layout and book-matched marble showers to a sunken tub positioned for privacy and view, reinforce the seamless connection between architecture, interior and landscape. Every space is oriented to the horizon, where clean lines, layered materials, and ocean light merge to elevate the quintessential California coastal experience.
